Steve DIY from Full Frontal Records and Punk Globe interview
Interview With Folter Clothing by Steve DIY
Folter is a clothing line for dark & disorderly chicks. They carry corset beaters, vulgar tees, sexy undies, bondage minis, etc and I caught up with Agnes for an interview regards Folter Clothing.
Here is what she had to say.
Punk Globe: I see on your site you have a fair amountof stockists so how do you go about getting your garments in to them?
Agnes: We use several methods to get our products in stores. Since it is a new line and there is no brand recognition, this process can b e very challenging at times. First of, we attend apparel trade shows where all designers and manufacturers showcase their products and where retailers go to stock their stores. We also mail out product catalogs with ordering information to stores. We contact stores and introduce ourselves and what we have to offer. So far we are doing really well and the most important thing is that about 95% of our customers re-order. It’s wonderful to hear that Folter is doing well in their stores and the customers enjoy our clothes.
Punk Globe: So what do you decide on what you’re going to produce?
Agnes: Hmmm this one is tough since I am all over the place. I basically design for myself. I think about what I would want to wear and go from there. It’s difficult for me to find clothes that fit my style and my price range. So when I design for Folter I keep these things in mind. I want something different, fun, with good quality and affordable prices. As far as the actual designing process, I go about it two ways. I sit down and sketch a ton of different things and then start sourcing for fabrics and trim, or I go fabric shopping and get inspiration from the fabrics I find.

Chateau Bizarre: Small Business at its Strangest
Corset lacing has been taken from the backs of modern courtesans and funked down into a comfy grrrlstyle that does a really nice job of showing off your tats, courtesy of Folter Clothing.

Check out what Daphne from Glitter Girrrls had to say about Folter
LOOKING FOR NAUGHTY? GRRRR GRRRLS WEAR FOLTER
Have you ever been to a party and saw this really hot chick in a mini plaid skirt and cleverly corseted wife beater being the center of attention all night long? Your friends whisper to each other as they sip fruit punch, "what has she got that we don’t anyway?" Yeah, you think to yourself, what does she have that I don’t? How about a totally naughty wardrobe to match an even naughtier attitude! That’s right all you lionesses out there. If you’re tired of the frills, fluffs, ribbons, and daintiness of today’s fashion, www.folterclothing.com is here to satisfy all your cravings for edgy attire. Folter, although some of us who love our dark side might like to attribute its fiendish clothing to the work of the devil, is actually the conception of brilliant design student, Agnes Yegyan. Believe it or not, the first line was created while she was still in school! In fact, Folter has just hit the stores this past June 2005. Yes, ladies, this baby is fresh right out of the oven – so I suggest you get them while they are hot! So what exactly makes Folter so edgy? Well, Agnes’ inspiration for the clothing comes from rock and roll, punk rock, electronica, industrial, and anything that pushes the envelope. Her clothing is designed for the courageous and independent women of the world, who in turn inspire her. According to Agnes, she wants Folter to be "against the grain and cutting edge." And Folter does just that and more. They gifted me with a cream-colored eye-popping wife beater (and how many can say that about a wife-beater?) that has the word "Cuntaminated" on the front. But that’s not what makes it truly something to look at. The middle of the back of the wife beater is brazenly cut out to reveal a corseted style top, complete with red laces. It’s so tantalizingly va-va-voom! They also gifted me with a cream and red plaid skirt to match. Get out of the way Paris Hilton! This is a dainty meet burning rubber. The minute I put this outfit on, I wanted to hit the open road in a Harley with the wind tousling my long locks, my aviator sunglasses keeping the world just dark enough for my taste, feeling the red lace teasing the small of my back, and my plaid skirt driving the passersby insane as it is being played around by the wind. Ah yes, Folter. It’s more than clothing. It’s a lifestyle.
